Privacy Policy
Last updated: 16 June 2026
Kindling (kindling.gg) helps indie game developers build an audience before launch. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the control you have over your data. We try to keep it plain. if anything is unclear, email hello@kindling.gg.
What we collect
- Developer accounts: your email address when you sign up or list a game, and the game details you submit (title, description, images, links, dates, and the contact details you provide).
- Players who follow a game or subscribe: the email address you give us, plus limited technical data captured at the time (approximate location derived from your IP address, referrer, and device/browser type) used for analytics and spam prevention.
- Usage data: page views and basic events, via our own first-party logging and Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool. If we run advertising, an advertising pixel (for example Meta) may also measure visits and sign-ups for ad reporting.
How we use it
- To run the service, your account, your game pages, and the discovery leaderboards.
- To send the updates you asked for: a launch notification for a game you followed, and the monthly Kindling newsletter if you opted in. These are two separate consents and we never bundle them.
- To prevent abuse and keep the leaderboards honest.
- To measure and improve the product.
Consent and following
Following a game means you agree to receive updates about that specific game from its developer. Subscribing to the Kindling newsletter is a separate, optional choice. When you follow anonymously we confirm your email (double opt-in) before it counts or receives anything. You can withdraw either consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email.
Your data is yours
Developers own the follower lists they build on Kindling and can export them to CSV at any time. Followers can unsubscribe from any list whenever they like. We do not sell personal data to anyone.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and you can object to or withdraw consent for processing. To exercise any of these, email hello@kindling.gg and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Who processes data for us
We use a small set of trusted providers who process data on our behalf:
- Vercel — hosting and content delivery.
- Neon — database.
- Resend — sending email (confirmations, notifications, newsletter).
- Umami — privacy-friendly analytics.
- Meta — advertising measurement, only if and when we run ads.
Retention
We keep account and game data while your account is active, and follower data until you or the follower deletes it. Ask us to delete your data and we will, except where we must keep limited records to meet legal obligations.
Children
Kindling is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product grows. We will update the date above and, for material changes, let registered developers know by email.
